Is The Non-Surgical Nose Treatment Right For Me?

Every individual’s nose shape is different and over time they will experience changes to their facial features. The nose, being the centre feature of the face is an important part that can impact the frontal and side profile of the face. Whether you were born with a nose shape that that does not balance well with your face, or have noticed changes as you got older, or had an injury that impacted the appearance of the nose, are all increasing concerns for both men and women.

Non-surgical rhinoplasty, also known as non-surgical nose job or liquid nose job, is a dermal filler treatment that alters and enhances the shape of the nose for up to 9–18 months. This treatment is ideal for many that want a quick fix in the reshaping and modifying of the nose, as it is a non-invasive, with less risk and less downtime, temporary treatment that is easily maintainable unlike surgical rhinoplasty.

What can be achieved with this treatment?

Many prospective patients find themselves lacking confidence with the shape and size of their nose. Often, in these cases, the individual may have considered surgery, but would be frightened of the thought of going under the knife, with weeks of recovery and financial investment needed. Many of the same goals and similar results as a surgical rhinoplasty can be attained with a non-surgical rhinoplasty, but with less commitment, cost and ideal for many that are not ready for a permanent solution to their appearance.

The non-surgical nose job is ideal for making minor changes and tweaks to the nose, rather than drastic and permanent differences. These minor changes can change the whole appearance of the nose, which can be surprising for many, most fascinating are the after results that show noses appearing smaller, especially as fillers are ‘filling’ the nose. In many cases, this treatment can achieve many of which can be attained with a surgical treatment, however in other cases the non-surgical nose job will not be suitable and cannot help in getting the results you want, and a surgical treatment might be best. If you’re looking for a dramatic, permanent change to your appearance, the non-surgical nose treatment will not be fitting for you

At Dermamina London, we provide a thorough consultation with every treatment. The consultation is designed to understand what the patient wants to achieve and assess whether that can be done. If you would like to find out if this treatment is right for you before booking then you can get in contact with a member of our friendly team. In the meantime, you can have a read of this blog that outlines the different nose shapes that are ideal for the treatment and shapes that are not.

Suitable Nose Shapes

The treatment targets mainly the bridge and the nasal tip. Using a very fine needle, dermal filler is strategically injected slowly and carefully in small amounts, into precise points of the nose to improve the contours and modify the shape of the nose. That said, the treatment is most suitable for:

  • Hooked nose, a common nose shape with a prominent dorsal hump along the bridge of the nose and is often curved down. The treatment will fill and smooth out the humps in the nose for a straighter and balanced nose shape. Along with this, the tip of the nose can be lifted and defined to give a lifted look, balancing well with a straightened nose shape.
  • Droopy nose is a nose that curves down, making the tip of the nose sag down. By injecting strategically around the tip of the nose can make the tip more prominent and provide a lift, enriching the side profile.
  • Uneven nose bridge is when the nose has small prominent humps along the bridge of the nose, resulting in an unbalanced look. With this treatment, fillers can be injected into the precise points of the bridge for a straighter and more harmonised nose shape.
  • Flat shaped nose is where the nose lacks a defined bridge. With this treatment, the filler can be injected along the bridge to provide a contour and structure to the shape of the nose, making the nose look slimmer and defined from the front profile. Often, the side profile is also enhanced with a lift and balance to the overall shape.
  • A deviated nose shape can be improved with the non surgical nose treatment. The nose cannot be made 100% straight but dermal fillers can slightly alter it, improving the front profile.
  • Aquiline nose shape (eagle-like) is a nose with a straight bridge that may be slightly bent towards the end. Most patients that come for this treatment may wish for a straighter nose shape that doesn’t curve down. With this treatment, fillers can be injected into the bridge to create a more lifted and balanced nose shape
  • Scooped with a turned-up tip is a nose shape with a low dorsum with a ‘scooped up’ appearance. Fillers can help lift the bridge and create a more balanced look
  • Button nose is rounded and small, tip turns up so slightly nostrils not very visible. Often patients that have button nose seek to have a more contoured and defined nose shape. The tip of the nose may also have a small bulbous tip which can be defined to create a more contoured look to the shape
  • Funnel nose shape is where nostrils pass over to the bridge. Some cases the treatment will not help with this shape as nostrils may be prominent and bridge is high and very close the forehead. Results may be subtle in this case
  • Snub is the nose shape that is short and upturned. Often patients that have snub shaped nose seek to have a more contoured and defined nose shape.

Unsuitable nose shapes

When it comes to the nose, there are limitations based on the patient’s overall anatomy, so many patients may not achieve their desired look due to their suitability. If you’re looking for a dramatic, permanent change to your appearance, the non-surgical nose treatment will not be suitable for you. Candidates that are not ideal for this treatment include:

- Grecian nose shape is a shape that drops straight down from the forehead. Fillers will not be suitable for this nose shape.

- A bulbous tip is where the tip of the nose is rounded and appears too big or without a structure. Dermal fillers cannot reduce the size of a large bulbous area.

- Deviated septum occurs when the nasal septum is considerably displaced to one side, resulting in the unevenness of the nasal air passage. Often people will find it harder to breathe as one nasal air passage would be smaller than the other. The nose will also look curved to one side which may be significant enough that its easily visible in the external shape of the nose. With that said, a deviated septum can only be fixed with a surgical procedure, but a deviated nose shape can be improved with the non-surgical nose treatment. The nose cannot be made 100% straight but dermal fillers can slightly alter it, improving the front profile. Nose shapes that are significantly crooked will not be suitable for this treatment as fillers will not be able to shift the deviation. The non-surgical nose job is purely cosmetic and cannot correct internal or functional problems.

- Heavily plunging or drooping nose tip. The skin at the tip would be heavy, therefore fillers will not be able to hold the shape.

- The treatment is not recommended if the skin is sensitive, swollen, infected or irritated or where infections are present e.g. active acne.

- Non-surgical rhinoplasty is also not recommended when pregnant or breastfeeding; it is only advisable after breastfeeding.

- The treatment cannot repair a broken nose or in many cases surgical ruins.

- If you pose any allergies to any ingredients in the filler, do not book for this treatment before informing the practitioner. Dermal fillers used in this treatment are made of hyaluronic acid (HA), which is naturally found in our bodies. However, just like collagen and elastin, the amount of naturally occurring HA in our bodies’ decreases over time. As it is something our bodies already produce, it can be considered as safe for use as an injectable, but is vital to go to an experienced practitioner in order to minimise the risks involved and prevent any unintended results.
